When does the January 2027 SSI payment arrive?
In short
It arrives Thursday, December 31, 2026 — early, and in the previous month. SSI is paid on the 1st; January 1 is New Year's Day, a federal holiday, so the deposit moves to the last business day before it. Nothing is wrong and nothing is missing: there is no second SSI payment in January.
Two SSI payments landing in the same December is the part that worries people, and it is the part that is completely normal. December 1 pays December’s benefit. December 31 pays January’s.
Why the date moves at all
SSI is paid on the first of the month. When the first falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment is delivered on the business day before, so that nobody waits past their due date because of a closure. January 1 is New Year’s Day. In 2027 it falls on a Friday, which makes the last business day before it Thursday, December 31, 2026.
The months this happens again in 2027
May’s payment arrives April 30, because May 1 is a Saturday. August’s arrives July 30, because August 1 is a Sunday and July 31 is also a Saturday.
What this does to a monthly budget
If money is counted by calendar month, an early payment can look like a windfall in one month and a gap in the next. It is the same twelve payments either way. The date to plan around is the one on the calendar, not the first of the month.
Common questions
Will I get two SSI payments in December 2026?
Yes, and both are normal. December 1 pays December's benefit and December 31 pays January's. It is one payment per month, moved onto a different calendar page.
Does this mean I get nothing in January?
No January deposit will appear, because January's money already arrived on December 31. February's payment lands February 1 as usual.
Does the amount change because it arrives early?
No. Only the delivery date moves. The benefit amount is unaffected.
